Inside Out, Upside Down, Backwards Party

We're planning a party for my 9 year old daughter where everything is either inside out, upside down, or backwards. We're going to make invitations on the computer that are written backwards so that you have to look in a mirror to read them. The guests will be invited to wear their clothes inside out at the party. We're planning games to fit into our party like a backwards wheel barrow race, backwards relay races, etc. Our food plans are also a little "backwards." We're serving an upside down cake instead of a traditional birthday cake.

50's Bithday Theme

My daughter was turning 13 when we planned a retro 60's theme party. Since she loves to dance and she grew up listening to "our" old music we threw a 60's-70's party.

We already had the great songs of the era, the Beatles, the Mamas and the Papas, etc. so the music was taken care of. I made the cake, had meatballs, chips and dips and peanuts as well as healthy food such as vegie trays available for the kids.

I made a huge round cake and made a smiley face using yellow icing, Girl Scout thin mints for the eyes and black licorice for the smile.

I also "melted" some old 33's (records) in the microwave for bowls and served the chips in them. (I put the record on top of a bowl and watch them melt. After the record warped over the bowl, I let it cool down.)

I hung old 45's around the room and hung a disco ball from the ceiling. A strobe light was also used when the kids danced to the "oldies." The guests were told to come dressed in the 60's, 70's, and 80's and they had a blast!

We had a karoke singing contest and gifts were handed out for the best singer(s) as well as for the best dressed singer. We also had peace sign necklaces and beaded bracelets to hand out as party gifts. My daughter's friends thought this was a fun and cool party since this was the first teen boy/girl party they were invited to.

Runners Up

THREE CHEERS FOR NATALIE!!!

Natalie will turn 9 on August 17, 2004. We wanted to have a "Cheer" Party however found nothing on the internet or at Party Stores in the City so we planned our own.

We invited ten young girls to come to the Cheer Party at 10:00 AM. As they arrive, we all chant their name..."Natalie" (fill in name) Give me a "N" Give me an A...Give me a "T ..."A"L"I"E", making each guest feel welcomed.

Old Fashioned Banner Paper Cheerleading signs are hung around the table saying "Go Girl...Happy Birthday!"

The table is decorated with pompoms of red and white. The Cake is made like two megapompoms decorated in red and the other in white icing. They can be made with two stacked angel food cakes (sizing down the top one to stack smaller by cutting in half and slicing off a portion) Use remaining portion for top making it three tier then Ice it.) You could make a sheet cake with decorated megaphone on it.

I invited a three members of a high school cheerleading squad (dressed in uniform) to come over and teach a cheer chant and a short dance routine to a popular kid song like "Let's get this party started"...or "Who let the dogs out". The girls will practice their routines and perform when the parents pick them up.

For favors, I have small plastic megaphones and/or bobblehead cheerleaders. I will take a photo of each girl with the cheerleaders and when we send the Thank You notes out, we will include their photo in it. This could easily be made into a boy-girl party with football and cheerleaders theme.

Honorable Mention -

A Bring Me A "Treasure" Hunt!!

Daughter selects how many people will attend. I will then make up some small paper bags with the instructions on what type of treasures they are to bring in the paper bags. The list might include things like: 1 small green object, something round, handful of something lite in weight..... and so forth. Nothing of major value!!! The invited guest that brings the most orginial Treasure will recieve a Prize! Then the guest will recieve another list of treasures to be found at the party location and the fastest hunter will also recieve a prize.

Then you could continue the theme by making a cake with "plastic treasures" loaded on top and they have to sit down, with pen and paper and locate the items on top of the cake.**kind-of like CAN YOU FIND THE..... Either do that with the cake or you could make your own paper place mats, cut out pictures and glue them to the paper to make your own FIND IT placemats!!

Christmas Party (daycare) - Ginger Bread Man

Make Ginger Bread Man with the children. Decorate paper ginger bread men with odd and ends (glitter, paper, confetti, markers, brick brack etc.). Hide the Ginger Bread Man after baked. Tell the children he ran away and have them go to other classes and ask is they have seen the ginger bread man. Teachers should be aware of activity and tell the children they saw him run and after they have been through the classes and when they get back to their own room the ginger bread man is on the table ready to eat with milk for snack.

My sister and I are planning a party for our boys birthdays. My two boys will be 5 and 7, my sister's son will be 7 also. We are planning on a carnival theme. The boys all love to play games at the fair so it will be perfect. We are planning on using some prizes from Oriental Trading Company. They will be playing games like: the ball toss to win a fish, picking plastic ducks out of a pool, and fishing for marked fish. We are also planning on hiring a clown some excitement. Maybe renting a popcorn machine. We are going to be having fair type food. Like corndogs, popcorn, soft pretzels, ice cream and cake.
