Kid Trivia Game Called Zonk
I have a good party game for older children. I've used it vacation care groups and in relief teaching.
Compile trivia questions on topics hottest with the kids, adapt the age accordingly....disney movie trivia, general knowledge whatever.
Separate the group into two teams and play Zonk!
Mark a series of 5 balls (I buy cheap foam balls or ping pongs will do) with 50 points, 100 points, 25 points 200 points, 250 points...and one with the word 'zonk'.
Explain the rules, in that a question will be asked of each team and they need to work as a team to confirm their answer. If they get the answer right - the person who answered gets to draw a ball (lucky dip style) - their team gets those points, or if they get the zonk ball the score goes automatically to zero.
This player/team can decide to play on, continuing to draw balls randomly, risking their points for however long they want. The team may choose to sit on the points they have. The other team must be forewarned that if they call out answers that the other team can use them.
Set a target point goal and stop the game when a team surpasses that target. Make it a challenging target, but not unachievable.
Be prepared with lots and lots of trivia questions on many many topics as this game goes back to zero quite often :D
I pitch boys against girls in the classroom for large groups of mixed sexes - I encourage the other team to yell out 'zonk' when the other team gets zonked.
It is a riot.
Kids love to play it over and over - just search for kids trivia on the internet to get your questions - just be sure that the kids have a hope in heck of answering them. I had seven year olds bouncing up and down and thumping their foreheads to remember what character did what in the lion king!
